A recent example of 2 x Schiess CNC vertical lathes removed from an aerospace factory and 2 x replacement Toshiba CNC vertical lathes installed in a very limited time scale and without adequate overhead craneage to lift any
of the machines.
 
Limited headroom and turning space inside the building also meant that it was not possible to utilise a mobile crane or Hiab-type vehicle on the job, so when only the minimal 2 tons overhead crane lift had managed the smallest of the machine’s components, the time-honoured method of skating and turfing the machines in and out of the workshop had to be employed.
