Karussell® VTL Vertical Borers - Vertical Lathes

The Karussell® BM series vertical borers are the result of a combination of logical evolution of traditional machines and lateral thinking in design and manufacture.

By combining the latest components, materials and techniques we have produced a machine that is as effective as many much larger, heavier and more costly types in a structure that can be transported in modular form and needs minimal assembly time on site.

Features:

The table drive system is totally contained within the visible table base; there
is no pit to collect oil or swarf and no separate motor or gearbox. The drive system uses a high power variable speed motor to give a full range of working speeds without the need for gear changing.

The table drive gears and bearings run within an oil bath; there are no pumps to fail
and no lack of lubrication when starting the machine at the beginning of a shift.

The three column triangulated structure has equal or greater the rigidity of a traditional machine with two columns, while taking minimal space.

The deep crossrail structure is again extremely rigid and the solidly attached lateral slideways combine with this for exceptional stability.

The electrical cabinets are integral to the crossrail unit, again minimising floorspace plus reducing the risks of damage, tampering or contamination that floor mounted cabinets may suffer. The integral cabinets also simplify interconnections with the machine as they do not need to be separated for transport and assembly.

The cylindrical ram is mounted in large adjustable bushings which provide massive bearing surface areas, maximising precision and rigidity even with a ram extension
of two metres or more.

And most importantly, the unseen section:

The table and column assemblies attach to a matching steel framework which is set in the machine foundation as that is constructed.

The combination of steel and concrete make a stronger and more stable system than
a traditional cast or fabricated base; in effect, a good part of the machine structure is underground.
